The ASDAN programme of study followed at The Grange School combines an activity-based curriculum, with a framework for the development of life skills and key skills. All ASDAN programmes are recognised by the DfES and by Institutes of Higher Education. In Year 10 students work towards the Bronze Award, and in Year 11 most will be able to study for the Certificate of Personal Effectiveness, which is equivalent to GCSE level. Topics studied during Key Stage 4 include
Activities include visits to a wildlife centre, the Magistrates' Courts, the Guildhall, the local Waste Management Scheme, a Garden Centre, various places of work and to an adventure theme park. School-based tasks include meeting and showing visitors around, serving tea to a group of friends, using the Internet as a source of information, demonstrating how to make something, giving a talk about something you feel strongly about, listening to a radio programme and reviewing it for your friends, organising displays, suggesting ways to improve the school environment, as well as a range of written tasks. Each task is assessed as it is completed and a portfolio of evidence is built up over the two years. This is submitted in order to gain the bronze or silver award.
