The English Department believes that every child matters and this established Department strives to see all pupils succeed. We have made steady progress with KS3 SATs results and GCSE exam results, as well as supporting targeted Year 7 students as part of the National Strategy for English.

The English Department believes that students will achieve more through carefully planned programmes of extended schemes and activities which involve a variety of skills and all modes of communication.

Within such programmes there is a clear direction and purpose.

Reading , writing, speaking and listening are inter-related skills and are of equal importance. With this in mind, the Department tries to maintain a balance, avoiding undue emphasis on one specific skill.
