Welcome to the History Department

Staff

Mr R Thomas - Head of Humanities

Miss E Jones - History Teacher

Mrs V Rogers - Teacher of KS3 Geography and History

The History Department believes that every child matters and this established Department strives to see all pupils succeed. In addition, there are many reasons why a subject specific History education is essential to all students. As well as developing important evidence and source-based skills and an understanding of periods such as the Roman Empire , the Middle Ages, Renaissance, Industrial Revolution and 20th Century World, all our students are aware of contemporary issues via the incorporation of citizenship into the History curriculum. For instance pupils reflect on human rights, laws and the importance of moral, social and political awareness in both their immediate and wider communities. In these days of increased focus on civic responsibility, History has never been more relevant.

As well as being a vital subject in its own right History helps us make sense of many other subjects through our awareness of the world we live in. History helps to develop key enquiry skills along with literacy, numeracy and ICT skills which are essential in today's modern world.
