Initial Teacher Training

The Grange School has recently built strong links with a number of higher educational institutions to offer teacher training in a variety of departments. The type of training ranges from simple placements lasting several weeks to extended employment-based tuition depending on the link institution. Training in the School involves a variety of tasks - not just formal teaching of the pupils - including observations, team teaching, attending meetings, tutorials with staff mentors and assignments. Although this is extra work for the Grange teaching staff the benefits to the School are enormous, including:

  • financial rewards
  • increased training for staff
  • close adherence to Government teaching standards
  • regular inspections from University Education tutors

Staff mentoring trainees are forced to scrutinise their own teaching techniques and skills on a regular basis which can only be good for the pupils.
